Former President of the United States Donald Trump said bitcoin is a scam and claimed there was another currency competing against the US dollar.

Bitcoin Seems Like a Scam

During an interview with Stuart Varney on Fox Business Network, Trump was asked about his views on cryptocurrencies and the US stock market, which the former president said he is also currently avoiding.

“Bitcoin just seems like a scam…I don’t like it because it is another currency competing against the dollar. Essentially it’s a currency competing against the dollar.  I want the dollar to be the currency of the world, that is what I have always said.”

During his time in the White House, Trump was equally critical of bitcoin, describing it and other cryptocurrencies as an asset that is "not money" and whose value is "highly volatile and nothing more."

But if you ask former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci (we did), Trump didn't already write that tweet. Scaramucci suggested to Decrypt that Trump had been told he needed to focus on bitcoin, and the tweet was framed for him.

“I realized very quickly when Trump himself was writing a tweet, they were full of bad language and misspellings and missing commas, just this gamble of conscience,” Scaramucci told Decrypt.

"I think the bitcoin talk was written by someone else. I think the bitcoin talk was written by government bureaucrats who don't want bitcoin to go up."

This time, it was definitely Trump who spoke. And whatever it is, his views are quite similar to that old tweet.
